Kate Spade Inspired Dorm Decor

Aside from Big/Little crafting last summer, I created these letters for my roommate and I. I lived in my sorority house with my best friend and I was so excited that I made us these matching door signs!

I combined the "Kate Spade look" with floral accents for a one-of-a-kind design. With the touch of extra sparkle from the gems, I just LOVE how these turned out! What's also great about them is that they're neutral enough that when Sierra and I are no longer roommates, she can still keep it in her room and it will go with pretty much anything!
See how I personalized these letters along with how I created a quick, simple Kate Spade quote canvas!

How To: Personalizing Wooden Letters

These letters can stand alone as initial monograms or they can spell out your sorority letters!
Materials:
  • Wooden Letters (I used 9" ones)
  • Painter's Tape
  • Acrylic Paint
  • Mod Podge
  • Fake Flowers
  • Hot Glue
  • Gems (optional)
Step 1: Start off with white wooden letters from Michael's and tape them off to paint on black stripes.
Step 2: Paint the edges to add the signature Kate Spade golden touch.
Step 3: Mod podge to seal in the design.
Step 4: Hot glue on flowers on opposite corners of the letters for a splash of color.
Step 5 (Optional): Add gems (I had some lying around from a broken sandal) for a little sparkle.

Quick and Easy Quote Canvas

I also painted this Kate Spade inspired canvas as a gift and I wanted to share how quick and easy it was to make!

Step 1: Prepare various shades of your desired "base" color
Step 2: Brush the different colors on in light, quick strokes making sure to blend some edges but not all
Step 3: Add gold accents in desired areas blending with shades of the "base" color as you go
Step 4: Once dry, lightly sketch your desired quote onto the canvas with a no. 2 pencil
Step 5: Paint over your sketch with a bright, contrasting color to make sure the text is visible against the background
Step 6: Add the Kate Spade logo (Pro tip: Turn your canvas upside down, paint a heart and add the rest of the details)
Step 7: Erase any remaining pencil marks and you're done!
Hope this was helpful to some of you and that you've been inspired to add some Kate Spade into your room and lives! Because she leaves a little sparkle wherever she goes...
